The Philippine Maya, widely known as Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus) is one of the abundant bird species in the country. This cute bird used to be the Philippine National Bird until 1995 where the more proud and powerful Philippine Eagle replaced them.

    it saddens me to know that most filipinos do not even know what the real Maya is. Never mind that it used to be out national bird. This not a Maya. Shown in the photo is the common brown “ibong bahay” as we always to call it.
