Sagada Hanging Coffins
A burial practice being done by the poeple of Sagada for 2000 years. The coffins are carved by the elderly before they die. In order to fit the remains some bones have to be broken. Sagada people prefer to be buried by the cliffs than underground. Advance happy Halloween everyone!

I think some tribes still do, but most of the Christianized ones already bury their dead. Still have to confirm this though.

hello all,
about the hanging coffins, the first was placed over a century (see the one on the very top right) ago, the most recent coffin hung holds a womans body (in the blue coffin) a few decades ago.
just thought i’d put in my two cents…

filipinos are realy able to see how they are prepared to die and how they positively think about the life after death. that is one of the reasons why natives of sagada do the ritual of hanging the coffins of theier departed love one. alas!!!! they have clear understanding on the life after death
