Today is Jose Rizal Day, commemorating his death in 1896. As a tribute here is his monument in Dapitan. He landed at Sta Cruz Beach 7pm in July 17, 1892 which started his exile in Dapitan. He was accompanied by Captain Delgras and three artillery men as they walk through Sta Cruz street with a “farol de combate” (a lantern) to Casa Real where he was presented to Spanish Military Governor of Dapitan at that time, Don Ricardo Carnicero.
The Feast of San Clemente also known as the Higantes (Giants) Festival is celebrated every 22nd to 23rd of November at the province of Angono in Rizal. On these days, colorful paper mache giants spanning 10 to 12 feet tall, joyously roam the streets of Angono in honor to the patron saint of the fishermen, San Clemente.
